ParticipantJust discovered Koha cat food at my local pet boutique it’s from New Zealand and has super minimal ingredient lists. Like literally 3-5 ingredients per can!
The concept is interesting limited ingredients, high quality proteins, and they emphasize New Zealand sourcing. But I’ve never heard anyone talk about this brand.
Anyone here use Koha? Is it worth trying? How do your cats like it? The price seems reasonable for premium food but I’m curious about real experiences.
Looking for honest feedback!
Thanks! 🙏💙

ParticipantKOHA IS FANTASTIC!! 🙌🇳🇿 We’ve been using it for 9 months and my cat absolutely loves it. The kangaroo formula is her favorite (yes, kangaroo it’s a novel protein!). The minimal ingredients are perfect for her food sensitivities no more mystery fillers or additives. Her digestion improved dramatically, coat is super shiny, and she has great energy. The New Zealand sourcing means high quality standards. Price is reasonable too about $2.50 per can! Highly recommend trying it. 💚✨

ParticipantMy cat wasn’t a fan 😕 I think the pate texture was too dense for her? She prefers lighter, fluffier textures. Tried the chicken and turkey formulas but she’d only lick it and leave most behind. Quality looked amazing though just didn’t match her texture preferences. Maybe better for cats who like hearty pates. 🐱

ParticipantKOHA EXPERIENCE: March 2025 to August 2025 📅
Let me share my complete Koha journey:
March (Weeks 1-2): Found Koha at specialty pet store. Started with chicken pate (only 4 ingredients!). Mixed with old food. My cat Simba was interested immediately! No digestive issues.
March (Weeks 3-4): Increased to 75% Koha. His chronic soft stool issues started improving! First time in months he had consistent firm poops. The minimal ingredients were clearly helping.
April: Full switch to Koha! Tried the turkey formula – he loved it! His coat started getting noticeably softer and shinier! His constant scratching (food allergy symptom) reduced significantly.
May: Branched out to novel proteins tried kangaroo and rabbit. Both huge hits! His skin issues completely cleared up. No more scratching or hot spots. Vet was amazed.
June: Vet checkup confirmed food allergies were under control. His weight was perfect, coat gorgeous, everything excellent! Vet fully supported Koha.
July-August: Six months in and thriving! Rotating between chicken, turkey, kangaroo, and rabbit for variety! His health is better than ever! No more allergy symptoms.
Monthly cost: About $70-80 for one cat. Worth it for allergy control. 💪💚

ParticipantPet nutritionist here! 👩⚕️ Koha is excellent for elimination diets and food allergies. The limited ingredient formulas make it easy to identify triggers! New Zealand has strict agricultural standards their meat quality is top-tier. The novel proteins (kangaroo, rabbit, venison) are great for cats with common protein allergies (chicken, beef, fish). High moisture content too (around 80%). Excellent choice for cats with sensitivities or for anyone wanting simple, clean ingredients. 💙✨

ParticipantCOST BREAKDOWN: 💰
Koha 5.5oz cans: $2.30-$2.80 per can
Weruva 5.5oz: $2.50-$3.50 per can
Tiki Cat 2.8oz: $2.20-$2.80 per can
Fancy Feast 3oz: $0.75-$1.00 per canKoha is mid-to-upper premium range. The cans are larger (5.5oz vs 2.8-3oz) so you get more per can. Actually good value when you compare cost per ounce! Plus the quality is exceptional. My cat eats less because it’s so rich and satisfying. 💚🐾

ParticipantNOVEL PROTEINS ARE AMAZING!! 😻🦘 My cat developed allergies to chicken and beef (most common proteins!). Koha’s kangaroo and rabbit formulas saved us. She’d never been exposed to these proteins before so no allergic reaction. Her itching stopped, her coat grew back, she’s comfortable again. If your cat has protein allergies, novel proteins are the answer. Koha makes it affordable and accessible. 🙏💕

ParticipantNew Zealand sourcing is LEGIT. 🇳🇿 New Zealand has some of the strictest food safety standards in the world. Their agricultural practices are top-tier grass-fed animals, no hormones, minimal antibiotics. Knowing Koha sources from there gives me confidence. Plus supporting sustainable farming practices feels good. Quality and ethics combined. 💙✨

ParticipantThe PATE TEXTURE is perfect! 👌 It’s smooth but substantial not soupy or mushy. My cat who’s super picky about textures finally found her match! She eats every bite and licks the bowl clean. The consistency is just right holds shape but isn’t dry or crumbly. If your cat is texture sensitive, Koha might be the answer. 🐱💚

ParticipantKOHA VS NATURAL BALANCE L.I.D.:
Both limited ingredient brands, here’s my comparison:
Koha wins for:
Fewer ingredients (even more minimal)
Novel protein options (kangaroo)
New Zealand quality standards
Better moisture content
Larger can sizesNatural Balance wins for:
More widely available
Lower price point
More formula variety
Established brand reputationMy verdict: Koha for SEVERE allergies and quality! Natural Balance for budget-friendly L.I.D.! Both excellent for sensitivities! I prefer Koha’s ultra-minimal approach! 💚🐾

ParticipantPERFECT FOR SENSITIVE TUMMIES!! 🎯 My cat has IBD and most foods trigger flare-ups. Koha’s minimal ingredients and high digestibility changed everything. ParticipantI started feeding my cats Koha wet cat food a few months ago, and they instantly took to it. The texture is soft and moist, not overly greasy like some canned foods. I love that Koha focuses on quality ingredients no grains or weird fillers. My picky eater especially enjoys the chicken flavor from their limited ingredient line. It’s a little pricey, but worth it for the clean ingredients and how healthy my cats look now. Definitely one of the better wet cat foods I’ve tried recently.

ParticipantKoha limited ingredient cat food has been a lifesaver for my cat with food allergies. I was struggling to find something that wouldn’t upset her stomach, and this brand worked perfectly. I use the rabbit recipe, and she digests it really well. The smell isn’t bad either, which is a plus for me. I like that Koha keeps it simple fewer ingredients but still packed with protein. Her coat is shinier now, and she’s stopped scratching as much. Honestly, I wish I’d found Koha sooner.

ParticipantAnyone else’s cat obsessed with the Koha Poké Bowl cat food? Mine goes crazy for the tuna and chicken combo! The texture is like shredded meat with a light broth, and it smells surprisingly fresh. It looks closer to real food than your average canned meal. I rotate between the Poké Bowl and the Koha canned cat food for variety, and my cats seem to love both. It’s been gentle on their digestion too. Definitely a win for picky eaters who love soft textures.
