ParticipantI’ve been looking into Evolve cat food lately both their classic and grain-free lines and I’m curious what the real experiences are. I’ve seen mixed opinions online, especially about older Evolve cat food reviews, some reddit discussions, and even mentions of Evolve cat food recall info from past years.
I tried a couple of their foods, including the Evolve wet cat food, canned recipes, and the dry grain-free salmon formula. My cat actually liked the classic chicken one too, but I’m still unsure about the ingredients and long-term quality. Has anyone tried their kitten formula, liver recipe, turkey formula, or salmon & brown rice dry food?
Also where do you all buy it? I’ve seen Evolve at Walmart, Petco, Publix, sometimes HEB, and occasionally on Chewy or Amazon, but it’s hard to find nearby. Anyone know if Evolve is still sold everywhere or why Walmart stopped carrying some of it?
- I’m especially interested in:
- Evolve grain-free cat food reviews
- Evolve dry cat food ingredients & quality
- Whether Evolve is a good cat food brand overall
- Any info on recent recalls (2024)
Experiences with moist/pouches and the Classic Crafted wet line
If you’ve tried Evolve good or bad please share your review. Is it worth buying again, or should I switch to something like Precise Naturals or Pure Harmony?

ParticipantI’ve used Evolve cat food on and off for a couple years, mostly the classic chicken and the grain free salmon dry cat food. My cat liked both, but the classic line actually gave me better long-term results. I did try the Evolve wet cat food too, and it smelled fresher than some cheaper cans I’ve bought at Walmart. I’m in the same boat about mixed opinions online, especially those old Evolve cat food recall discussions. Compared to Kirkland Signature and Pure Cravings, Evolve feels mid-tier, but not bad for the price if your cat digs the flavor.

ParticipantMy cat didn’t love the Evolve grain free cat food, but he absolutely devoured the turkey formula from the classic line. I think the ingredients are okay, nothing super fancy but also not as junky as some cheaper store brands. I used to buy Nature’s Domain, but he got bored. The Evolve canned cat food is pretty decent, especially the classic liver recipe strong smell but apparently super tasty to cats. I buy mine at Publix because it’s always stocked. Walmart used to carry it more consistently, but lately it’s hit or miss.

ParticipantI had a weird experience where my cat liked Evolve wet cat food, especially the salmon recipe, but completely ignored the dry kibble. I checked the ingredients and they seemed pretty normal. Nothing scary, but I did notice garlic powder listed on an old can someone posted on reddit. My new cans didn’t have it though. Evolve cat food walmart selection dropped a lot in my area, so I switched to Pure Harmony for convenience. Evolve isn’t a bad brand, but the availability issue alone pushed me toward something easier to find.

ParticipantMy kitten actually did really well on the Evolve kitten formula dry cat food. She grew steadily and her coat looked healthy. I paired it with Pure Cravings wet food for moisture. The Evolve classic chicken recipe canned cat food was surprisingly loved too. I saw old Evolve cat food reviews online that were negative, but most of those seem to be from years ago. No issues recently in my experience. I usually pick it up at HEB, though sometimes they run out for weeks. The inconsistency makes it frustrating.

ParticipantI used Evolve classic cat food for my two boys when they were younger, and they both loved the chicken and rice formula. The grain free salmon wasn’t as popular. The ingredients list looked okay to me, but I’ve always been cautious because of those Evolve cat food recall 2024 conversations floating around. I haven’t personally seen any problems. The wet food is solid though the pouches are convenient. I now mostly use Kirkland Signature because price matters, but I’d still grab Evolve if it was easier to find near me.

ParticipantI live in Florida, and Publix used to stock tons of Evolve cat food now it’s reduced to a tiny section. No idea why Walmart stopped selling evolve cat food in the bigger bags either. My cat loved the salmon & brown rice dry formula. It smelled fresher than Nutra Nuggets for sure. I also tried the Evolve moist cat food pouches, which were a hit. Ingredients-wise, it’s not super premium, but definitely better than many grocery store brands. I haven’t had any stomach issues with it, which is always my main concern.

ParticipantI bought the Evolve grain free cat food when my cat had a reaction to another brand, and honestly it helped stabilize her digestion. The salmon formula was gentle enough. I also liked the short ingredients list. The Evolve wet cat food review posts online complain about texture, but mine loved it. I do rotate with Pure Cravings and Nature’s Domain depending on budget. As for availability, it’s kind of random where to buy Evolve cat food now I mostly find it on Amazon, though I’ve seen it at Petco rarely.

ParticipantI tried the Evolve chicken and rice cat food for my chubby orange boy, and he really enjoyed it. His coat looked healthier within a month. The Evolve classic crafted wet cat food is another one he enjoys, especially the turkey formula. I saw old reddit cat food evolve threads mentioning recalls, but that seems to have been resolved ages ago. Still, I always check batch numbers. I usually buy the bigger bags because I found a place selling bulk evolve cat food online. It’s cheaper than Chewy for me.

ParticipantMy picky cat surprisingly liked the Evolve classic cat food liver recipe. The smell was strong but she ate every bit of it. The grain free wasn’t as successful though she refused it after two days. I compare everything to Pure Harmony since that was her favorite for years. Evolve is close, but not quite as moisture-rich in the wet versions. I get mine at Petco because they still stock the canned options. I wish it was easier to find near me, because Walmart used to make it so convenient.

ParticipantI’ve been using Evolve dry cat food on and off. It’s not the most premium food I’ve ever bought, but it’s also not “bad” by any means. The dry cat food ingredients seem fairly standard. My vet said it’s fine as part of a rotational diet. I’ve also used Nutra Nuggets and Pure Cravings during price spikes. The Evolve canned cat food salmon is one my cat begs for. As far as the Evolve cat food recall stuff, I haven’t seen anything recent that affects my batch. But I stay aware just in case.

ParticipantI picked up some Evolve salmon wet cat food when it was on sale, and my cat inhaled it. The grain free dry version wasn’t as successful caused slightly smelly stool for a week. The classic line digests better in my experience. I’ve seen a lot of older catalogical evolve cat food review posts, and they’re very mixed. I think the brand has improved since those days. I buy it from Amazon or Publix because both deliver fast. It’s not as widely available as Pure Harmony, which is disappointing.

ParticipantMy cat loved the Evolve classic chicken cat food when he was younger. It was affordable and didn’t give him any tummy issues. I recently went back to it and tried the salmon and brown rice & barley formula dry cat food, and it was actually great. His coat looked shinier. The wet Evolve cat food is hit or miss in flavor though. I rotate with Nature’s Domain to keep things interesting. I’ve never encountered anything concerning about the ingredients. Still, I wish Walmart hadn’t phased it out in my area.

ParticipantI tried Evolve dry cat food for my senior cat because someone recommended the maintenance formula. It was fine, but he didn’t seem overly excited. The wet food, though, he absolutely adored. Especially the turkey formula. I was nervous because of those posts about Evolve cat food recall 2024, but my batch seemed fine. I used to buy Kirkland Signature all the time but wanted something with a slightly shorter ingredient list. Evolve fits that. I still think Pure Cravings has better quality in wet food, but Evolve is more budget-friendly.

ParticipantI’ve used the Evolve grain free dry cat food and the classic chicken formula. My cats preferred the classic one, maybe because grain free formulas sometimes taste a little different. The wet cat food pouches were also a huge hit. I noticed mild coat improvement but nothing dramatic. I do think the ingredients are okay for the price range. It’s not super premium like some small brands, but it’s definitely better than a lot of the cheap aisle stuff. I buy mine from Publix or occasionally Amazon when it’s on sale.
