ParticipantI recently switched my two cats to Dr. Elsey’s CleanProtein Cat Food, and I’ve got to say I’m kind of impressed so far. I started with the Chicken Formula Grain-Free Dry Food, and they both dove right in. Their coats look glossier, and I’ve noticed less shedding too. What caught my attention about Dr. Elsey’s is that it’s high in animal protein and low in carbs, which is supposed to be better for cats’ natural diet.
That said, I’m still figuring out if it’s worth the cost long-term. The kibble seems a bit dense, and one of my cats prefers the CleanProtein Chicken Wet Food over the dry version. I’m also eyeing the Rabbit and Salmon formulas next has anyone tried those?
I’d really love to hear from others feeding Dr. Elsey’s Cat Food especially if your cat has diabetes, IBD, or is just a picky eater.
- How are your cats doing on it?
- Any digestion or energy changes?
- Have you tried both wet and dry versions?
- Where do you usually buy it Chewy, Amazon, or Petco?
- And most importantly do you think Dr. Elsey’s is really worth it?
Let’s compare notes! I’ve seen a lot of hype about it being one of the “cleanest” cat foods out there, but I’m curious how real cat parents feel about it after a few months.

ParticipantI switched my diabetic cat to Dr. Elsey’s CleanProtein Cat Food after hearing it mimics a cat’s natural diet. The chicken dry formula worked wonders his blood sugar stabilized, and his coat got softer. I also mix in the CleanProtein Chicken canned food for moisture. It’s pricey, sure, but compared to brands like Kirkland Signature or Nature’s Domain, I think it’s cleaner and more species appropriate. I usually buy it from Chewy since it’s hard to find Dr. Elsey’s cat food near me.

ParticipantWe’ve been feeding Dr. Elsey’s Rabbit formula for three months now. My picky eater finally stopped turning his nose up at mealtime! I had tried Nutra Nuggets and Pure Cravings before, but nothing came close to this. It’s low-carb, high-protein exactly what cats need. I like that it doesn’t have peas or potatoes. I order through Amazon, and the delivery’s always fresh.

ParticipantMy senior cat has IBD, so finding a food that doesn’t upset her stomach was tough. The Dr. Elsey’s CleanProtein Salmon Dry Cat Food has been a lifesaver. Her digestion improved, and no more vomiting. I also give her the wet version sometimes to help with hydration. It’s not the cheapest, but honestly, seeing her comfortable again makes it worth every penny.

ParticipantI think Dr. Elsey’s CleanProtein Chicken Formula Grain-Free Dry Cat Food is one of the best high-protein options around. I feed it alongside Fromm and Acana, just to mix things up. My cats have shiny coats and solid stools. The kibble is a bit hard, though my older cat prefers the CleanProtein canned chicken food instead.

ParticipantHas anyone else noticed that their cats eat smaller portions of Dr. Elsey’s dry cat food but stay full longer? I think it’s because of the protein levels. I used to feed Kirkland Signature Cat Food, and they were constantly hungry. Now with Dr. Elsey’s, their weight is stable, and energy levels are great. I buy it from Petco when it’s on sale.

ParticipantMy diabetic cat has been on Dr. Elsey’s CleanProtein Wet Food for over a year, and it’s done wonders for his glucose levels. It’s so much better than prescription diets we tried before. I alternate between Chicken and Turkey recipes, and he licks the bowl clean every time. The texture’s nice and meaty not mushy like some other brands.

ParticipantThe Dr. Elsey’s Rabbit canned cat food is a hit in my home. My cat used to throw up after meals, but that stopped after switching. I love that it’s grain free and doesn’t contain fillers. It feels like a premium product compared to Nature’s Domain or Nutra Nuggets. I get it from Chewy, and the cans always arrive in perfect condition.

ParticipantI’ve tried both the Chicken and Salmon CleanProtein Dry Cat Food, and honestly, both are excellent. My cats seem to prefer the salmon flavor — maybe it’s stronger smelling. Their fur is softer, and I’ve noticed less shedding. I even contacted Dr. Elsey’s customer support once to ask about samples, and they were super helpful!

ParticipantAfter trying countless grain-free foods, Dr. Elsey’s CleanProtein has been the only one that keeps my cats satisfied and healthy. I like how transparent the ingredient list is pure, clean, and simple. No random fillers. I buy from Amazon because it’s usually cheaper than PetSmart or Petco.

ParticipantWe feed our two rescues the Dr. Elsey’s CleanProtein Chicken Dry Cat Food mixed with a spoon of CleanProtein Wet Chicken in the evening. It’s helped with their energy and digestion. We used to use Pure Cravings but noticed one of them was losing weight. Since switching to Dr. Elsey’s, both have filled out nicely.

ParticipantI think Dr. Elsey’s CleanProtein Dry Cat Food is one of the most underrated premium foods out there. It’s pricey, but the results are clear. My vet actually recommended it for my overweight cat he’s lost weight safely and isn’t begging for snacks anymore. I order it regularly from Chewy.

ParticipantHas anyone tried the Dr. Elsey’s Turkey CleanProtein Wet Food? My cat’s obsessed with it. I love that it has high moisture and no by-products. I sometimes mix it with Dr. Elsey’s Dry Chicken Formula to give a balanced diet. It’s been great for his coat and digestion.

ParticipantI’ve been using the Dr. Elsey’s Salmon Dry Cat Food for two months, and my cats love it. One of them used to eat Kirkland Signature, and the switch was seamless. No stomach upset, and his fur is glossier than ever. It’s become my go-to brand for both dry and canned meals.

ParticipantThe first time I tried Dr. Elsey’s CleanProtein Wet Chicken Formula, I was shocked by how much my cats enjoyed it. It smells like actual chicken, not that fake gravy stuff. I used to alternate with Nature’s Domain, but they lost interest fast. With this, mealtime’s exciting again!
