I recently grabbed a few bags of Merrick Backcountry Cat Food for my cat a mix of the dry grain-free and raw-infused wet formulas. I went with rabbit and game bird flavors, and so far, she’s been pretty interested in them, which is a big win since she’s usually picky 😹.
I’ve seen some mixed things online: some people love it, others worry about phosphorus levels or grain content. I like that it has a high protein, real-meat focus, and some of the wet pouches seem really convenient for feeding small portions.
Has anyone tried the grain-free raw-infused formulas? Or maybe the freeze-dried chicken mixer? I’m curious if it makes a big difference for picky eaters or cats with sensitive stomachs.
Also, has anyone noticed shortages or issues with availability? I’ve seen some posts about it being discontinued in certain stores, and I don’t want to be halfway through a bag if it disappears.

I also mix in the wet pouches and sprinkle the freeze-dried chicken mixer occasionally. Compared to Kirkland Signature, Nature’s Domain, or Nutra Nuggets, Merrick Backcountry seems higher in real meat and protein. Her coat looks better, energy levels improved, and digestion is fine. Chewy, PetSmart, and Walmart all carry it. I’ve read some posts about shortages or discontinued flavors, but I’ve had no trouble getting it locally.
