ParticipantBeen researching Nulo cat food and the high meat/low carb concept sounds interesting. They claim 80% animal based ingredients which seems impressive.
My cat needs to lose a bit of weight and I’ve heard low carb foods can help. Is Nulo actually as good as they say? The packaging looks premium but does it deliver?
Anyone have experience with this brand? Both dry and wet food feedback welcome!
Thanks! ๐๐พ

ParticipantNULO IS AMAZING FOR WEIGHT LOSS!! ๐ My chubby boy lost 3 pounds in 4 months on Nulo and he’s now at perfect weight. The high protein/low carb formula keeps him satisfied with smaller portions. He’s not constantly begging for food anymore. His energy increased dramatically he actually plays now instead of just sleeping. The freestyle grain free chicken & cod is his favorite. Coat is super shiny too. Yes it’s pricey but the results are incredible. Totally worth it for weight management. ๐ช๐

ParticipantMy cat didn’t like the kibble texture ๐ Too hard and crunchy for her I think? She’s used to softer foods. She’d eat a few pieces and walk away. The wet food worked better but still not her favorite. Quality looked excellent though just didn’t match her preferences. Every cat is different. ๐ฑ

ParticipantTHIS SOUNDS PERFECT!! ๐ My cat is overweight (vet says 2 pounds over ideal) and I’ve been looking for good weight management food. Low carb makes so much sense for cats since they’re carnivores. Ordering the starter pack right now! Which formula is best for weight loss?? Thanks for posting. ๐โจ

ParticipantVeterinary nutritionist here. ๐ฉโโ๏ธ Nulo’s approach is sound! Cats are obligate carnivores needing high protein and minimal carbs. Their formulas typically have 40-45% protein (dry matter basis) which is excellent. Low glycemic carbs prevent blood sugar spikes that trigger fat storage. The BC30 probiotic they add supports digestion. Great for weight management, muscle maintenance, and overall health. Just ensure proper portion control high protein doesn’t mean unlimited amounts. ๐โจ

ParticipantPRICE COMPARISON: ๐ฐ
Nulo Freestyle: $3.50-$4.00 per pound (dry)
Nulo Wet food: $2.50-$3.20 per 3oz can
Orijen: $4.50-$5.00 per pound
Wellness CORE: $2.80-$3.20 per pound
Blue Buffalo: $2.50-$3.00 per poundNulo is upper mid range pricing! Not the most expensive but definitely premium. The high meat content justifies the cost. My cat eats less because it’s so satisfying, so bags last longer. When you calculate cost per feeding, it’s very reasonable. ๐๐พ

ParticipantMY CAT HAS SO MUCH ENERGY NOW!! ๐ป Before Nulo she was lazy and sluggish (partly because overweight). After 3 months on Nulo she’s like a different cat. Running around, playing with toys, jumping on cat trees, chasing shadows! The high protein gives her sustainable energy throughout the day. She’s not crashing after meals like she did on carb-heavy foods. It’s like she’s young again. ๐๐

ParticipantTHE PROBIOTIC MAKES A DIFFERENCE!! ๐ช Nulo includes BC30 probiotic in their formulas it’s clinically studied and actually survives digestion. My cat’s poops are smaller, firmer, and less smelly since switching. Her digestion is clearly better. Plus probiotics support immune health. It’s a small detail but it really sets Nulo apart from competitors. ๐โจ

ParticipantMultiple formula options! ๐
Freestyle: Original line, grain-free, high protein
Freestyle Trim: Weight management formula
MedalSeries: Even higher protein, for active cats
Limited Ingredient: For sensitivitiesI use Freestyle Trim for my chubby cat and MedalSeries for my active young cat. Love that one brand covers different needs. ๐๐ฑ

ParticipantNULO VS WELLNESS CORE (protein showdown!):
Both high-protein brands, here’s my comparison:
Nulo wins for:
Higher protein percentages (typically 2-3% more!)
Better for weight loss (lower carbs!)
Probiotic inclusion
Better palatability (my cats prefer it!)
More modern formulationsWellness CORE wins for:
Slightly more affordable
More widely available
Longer track record
More flavor varietiesMy verdict: Nulo for WEIGHT MANAGEMENT. Wellness CORE for budget-conscious high-protein. Both excellent. I prefer Nulo for results. ๐๐พ

ParticipantMUSCLE MAINTENANCE IS REAL!! ๐ช My cat lost weight on diet foods before but also lost muscle and looked scrawny. On Nulo, she lost FAT but maintained MUSCLE. The high protein prevents muscle loss during weight loss. She’s lean and toned, not weak and skinny. Huge difference. Proper weight loss means losing fat, not muscle! Nulo does it right. ๐ฏโจ

Participant11 months with Nulo and my cat is TRANSFORMED!! ๐ Started because she was overweight and lethargic. Now she’s at perfect weight, muscular, energetic, playful, and radiates health. Her coat is gorgeous, her eyes are bright, she moves with ease and grace. Every vet visit they comment on her excellent body condition.
Yes I spend about $70/month on food but seeing her healthy and happy makes it worth every penny. The high protein/low carb formula just WORKS for cats. It aligns with their natural carnivore biology. Before Nulo she was on grain heavy foods that made her fat and sluggish. Now she’s thriving on species-appropriate nutrition. If your cat needs to lose weight or you just want optimal nutrition, TRY NULO. The transformation is incredible. Visible weight loss, increased energy, better muscle tone, shinier coat real measurable results. Your cat will be healthier, happier, and more active. Highly recommend. ๐ป๐ช๐

ParticipantI switched to Nulo Freestyle cat food after reading a few Nulo dry cat food reviews, and honestly, Iโm so glad I did! My catโs coat became super shiny, and her energy levels shot up. I mix the Nulo adult & kitten grain-free dry cat food with a little wet food for extra moisture. The ingredients look clean no corn, soy, or weird fillers. I used to feed another brand, but Nulo seems much higher quality. Plus, the Freestyle Salmon flavor smells fresh and my cat finishes every bite!

ParticipantHas anyone else tried the Nulo wet cat food? I picked up a few cans after seeing positive Nulo canned cat food reviews online. My picky eater actually licked the bowl clean for once! The Chicken & Duck recipe was a hit, and I love that itโs grain-free and high in protein. I used to be worried about strong smells, but this one just smells like real meat. Iโm now alternating between the Nulo Freestyle wet and dry cat food to keep things balanced.

ParticipantAfter some research, I decided to go with the Nulo Medal Series cat food for my indoor cats, and itโs been fantastic. I saw mixed Nulo Medal Series cat food reviews, but my cats are thriving shiny coats, better digestion, and fewer hairballs! Itโs a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Iโve also tried their Nulo limited ingredient cat food for my sensitive boy, and heโs no longer vomiting after meals. The clean label and digestibility are top-notch.
