I rotate between Pure Cravings tuna cans and Nutra Nuggets kibble, but creamy lickable cat treats always seal the deal. The salmon flavor creamy lickable cat treats in particular seem to fix any appetite slump instantly. I love that the ingredients keep things simplecat digestion stays peaceful and nap-ready. The mega pack is a lifesaver when discounts hit. Plus, watching them lick so intensely that their whole head bobs forward is honestly comedy gold in this household.

I recently switched my cats to Vital Essentials cat food, using chicken mini nibs, turkey mini patties, and rabbit chubs. The raw fusion line adds extra variety, and they love it all. Compared to Nature’s Domain and Pure Cravings, it’s clearly fresher and more nutrient-dense. I checked Vital Essentials cat food reviews, ingredients, and phosphorus levels everything is solid. Cats clean bowls, digestion is smooth, energy is high, and coats look shiny. Online and local availability is good. For anyone looking to rotate raw, freeze-dried, and frozen meals, this brand is fantastic.

I was skeptical about Redbarn at first since I hadn’t heard much about it compared to Kirkland Signature or Nature’s Domain, but wow I’m impressed. My picky cat absolutely loves the Redbarn Beef Stew Cat Food. The smell is rich, and it looks like real beef. It’s grain free, which helps his digestion, and I’ve noticed fewer hairballs too. The price is fair for the quality, and I love supporting a brand that’s transparent about their ingredients.

Veterinary nutritionist perspective – the DCM concerns linked to grain-free diets were primarily observed in dogs, particularly certain breeds, not cats. Feline DCM when it occurs is usually related to taurine deficiency, not grain-free formulas specifically. Taste of the Wild includes adequate taurine supplementation meeting feline requirements.

Grain-free formulas can work excellently for cats as obligate carnivores naturally consuming prey without grains. The novel proteins (venison, bison, salmon) provide protein variety and quality. For healthy cats without specific grain needs, grain-free high-protein formulas like Taste of the Wild align well with feline carnivore biology. Monitor heart health at regular vet visits but grain-free isn’t automatically problematic for cats like concerns were for some dogs.

Tried Pro Plan Sensitive Skin formula and my cat showed minimal interest. He ate reluctantly for few days then started refusing meals. Something about taste or texture didn’t appeal despite quality ingredients. Quality might be superior scientifically but palatability was problem for him. Best nutrition means nothing if cat won’t consume it consistently.
